Q: What do I need to bring with me when visiting Steep Point?
A: You need to bring everything with you. Your Entry Permit. Fuel, Food, Water, Generators, Freezers, All fishing tackle, line, sinkers, bait, etc. There is no Garage/shop for over 100 km's so be sure to bring everything you may need.
Q: Can I get Fuel at Steep Point?
A: No, all fuels for all vehicles, petrol or diesel must be brought in with you. The Ranger is not licensed to carry any fuels.
Q: Is there a Telephone at Steep Point?
A: No, the public telephone box that was situated near the Rangers residence has been removed by Telstra.
Since the Next G network was introduced by Telstra in 2007/8 the telephone coverage on your mobile phone is quite sufficiant.
The required entry permit stipulates you must carry a mobile phone in your group. There is a phone at the Rangers residence for emergencies.
Q: Are there ablution blocks at Steep Point?
A: No. There are Toilet facilities at the main camping area, along the beach before you actually get to the Point.
There are two dry Toilets at the point itself.
Camp showers, and water for the showers, must be brought in.
Q: Is there fire wood at Steep Point and, can I light a campfire?
A: There is no firewood at Steep Point.
All firewood must be brought in with you. You are allowed to light a campfire and common sense rules apply.
Q: Can I buy bait and fishing tackle at Steep Point.
A: No.
Sometimes the Ranger has spare bait, but it is a good idea to bring more than enough with you.
Q: When is the best time to visit Steep Point.
A: The Scenery is worth the drive at any time of the year but, strong SW winds are common from November through to April.
("Fisher persons please note.") South westerly winds are ideal for fishing, and particularly balloon fishing at Steep Point.
Q: Is there a Doctor at Steep Point.
A: No. The nearest Doctor is at Denham. Ensure you are carrying a well stocked First aid kit, and First aid book. These are required items listed in the Entry Permit for Steep Point
